NRL ROUND 1 – PREVIEW OF EACH GAME

Sharks vs. Broncos

Cronulla’s first appearance at Shark Park since claiming their maiden premiership so it should be a rocking night in the Shire. They will be without new fullback Valentine Holmes who tore a hamstring a few weeks back. Both these sides travelled to England recently and both came away with losses. I’m expecting a really tight game but leaning toward Cronulla to get the win at home.

Tip: Sharks

Bulldogs vs. Storm

The old 6pm Friday kick-off – what a time to be alive. I really don’t see why Melbourne can’t win this game despite it being played at Canterbury’s spiritual home. Until the Bulldogs improve their attack, I can’t take them against Cameron Smith and company.

Tip: Storm

Rabbitohs vs. Wests Tigers

After what I saw from Robbie Farah and the Rabbitohs in the Charity Shield, I really thought they’d come out and blitzkrieg Wests on Friday night but no Adam Reynolds changes everything. Luke Brooks, Mitch Moses and James Tedesco are all carrying injuries but if they play, I’m backing Wests Tigers.

Tip: Wests Tigers

Dragons vs. Panthers

Panthers are feeling the love from everyone at the moment but it’s never easy beating St George Illawarra at Kogarah. Panthers have points in them, Dragons do not.

Tip: Panthers

Cowboys vs. Raiders

The North Queensland Cowboys will really miss James Tamou this season and it doesn’t get any more menacing than a monster Raiders pack. The home side do still boast plenty of talent and a little bloke by the name of Johnathan Thurston. Expect the Cowboys to come home the stronger and take it away from the Raiders at the backend.

Tip: Cowboys

Titans vs. Roosters

This one could go either way with many expecting these two sides to finish in the playoffs at season’s end. Gold Coast has a bunch of injury concerns and that’s enough for me to take the Roosters.

Tip: Roosters

Warriors vs. Knights

The Warriors could win this by fifty or lose it by twenty. Newcastle were awesome in their 44-0 drubbing of the Raiders a few weeks back but they’ll have to bring their absolute best to take two competition points from Auckland. Too much class for the Warriors to lose this one.

Tip: Warriors

Sea Eagles vs. Eels

A rivalry clash on a Sunday afternoon at Brookvale. Expecting something from Daly Cherry-Evans with the addition of new halves partner Blake Green.

Tip: Sea Eagles
