Chris Cavanagh Wins Again, Equal with Derm

Herald Sun journo Chris Cavanagh has proven that he is the best AFL expert out there….again!

Up against AFL experts in the form of ex players, ex coaches, television and radio commentors, and online and press journalists from all the major shops, Cavanagh again won the Who Tipped What AFL experts’ tipping competition after taking away the chocolates in 2017. But in 2018 he was not alone, this year sharing the title with Fox Sports commentator, Hawthorn legend, and 5 time premiership winner Dermott Brereton.

Cavanagh scored a perfect 9 from 9 in the Round 23, drawing equal with the Derm who had a 2 point leading margin going into the last round. Brereton however tipped Port Adelaide over Essendon, and GWS over Melbourne, therefore only tipping 7 from 9 in the last round. Sarah Jones from Fox Sports and Jon Ralph from the Herald Sun shared the podium, both coming in equal third place, only 2 points behind the winners. Refusing to tip against Carlton all season long had Chris Judd join his Carlton team mates in coming dead last and collecting the spoon.

The 2018 Who Tipped What AFL experts’ tipping competition had 43 AFL experts from all sections of the media. For the record, bragging rights for 2018 in the head to head battles went to the following: Television: Fox Sports (Brereton 1st, Jones 3rd, Whateley 7th) over Channel 7 (McAvaney 8th, Watson 13th); Press: Herald Sun (Cavanagh 1st, Ralph 3rd, Lauren Wood 8th) over The Australian (Wally Mason 8th) over The Age (Jake Niall 13th).

The Who Tipped What NRL experts’ tipping competition draws to close this weekend, with Justin Davies from League Unlimited, 1 point ahead of Wally Mason from The Australian.
